How it all began

Inklings Wines is a small producer committed to creating great wines that evoke the places and characters created by J.R.R. Tolkein, C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton and others. Our founder, Langdon Palmer spent 15 years in the vineyard and in the wine cellar pursuing this dream. His own life had been profoundly influenced by these writers, and he hoped his wines could both celebrate the books and introduce others to them. You can see Langdon’s other creative efforts here. Our high quality, small run wines come from various appellations, and each one tells a unique story.

The Inklings were an informal literary discussion group associated with J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis at the University of Oxford for nearly two decades between the early 1930s and late 1949. Often meeting in a pub, this set of friends shared and critiqued each other’s writings, encouraging and supporting one another. Later, The Marion Wade Center at Wheaton college identified “The Seven”, creating a list of seven authors including not only the Inklings, but those who influenced them.. The Seven are:

C. S. Lewis

J. R. R. Tolkien

G. K. Chesterton

Dorothy L. Sayers

Charles Williams

Owen Barfield,

 George MacDonald,

Our wines are based on the places and characters created by these incredible authors. You can explore them here!
